Notch, real name Markus Persson, is a Swedish video game developer and musician. He is best known for creating the sandbox video game Minecraft and for founding the video game development studio Mojang in 2010.
Persson was born on June 1, 1979, in Stockholm, Sweden. He grew up in Edsbyn and his parents were both engineers. He became interested in programming at a young age and taught himself how to code. He created his first game, a text-based adventure game, at the age of eight.
Persson’s first professional job was as a programmer for Jalbum, a website builder company. He worked there for two years before leaving to work on Minecraft full-time.
Minecraft was released in 2011 and quickly became a global phenomenon. Over 100 million copies of the game have been sold across all platforms, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time.
