Minecraft Comes Alive
Have you ever sat and wondered what the point of clearing out all that space was? Did you ever sigh and roll your eyes when Notch rolled out the sorry excuse for Villagers that we currently have? Yeah, me too. On both accounts.
When I first heard that they were adding friendly NPCs to the game, my mind boggled a little. Finally, something worth playing for. I had visions of creating a settlement, being a mayor, basically being able to play first person Sim City or Civilization. I had visions of leading an army of NPCs from my home and conquering the other NPCs in a vast orgy of slaughter.
What I got, of course, were animals in the shapes of humans, with silly robe-hands and enormous noses. They stand in their houses and trade with you, sometimes. Maybe. If you open their doors, they run outside and get lost. Their crops wither in their fields. They are a complete and utter disappointment and every time I see them in-game I make it a point to mess their stuff up.
Apparently there are quite a few people who are fed up with the boring, static vanilla Villagers because who should show up because this mod turns that all on its head. No more wandering useless Squidwards. No more robed idiots. Now the villagers look like any regular human in-game with unique skins, and more importantly, they’re capable of doing things!
They’re still not very bright, but you can talk with them, joke with them, set their homes, give them tasks to perform, marry them to yourself or to each other, and watch them grow up in nice, quiet villages.
I’ll admit, it’s not quite as enticing as Millenaire (reviewed **here**), but this one does have the added benefit that you don’t have to worry about the unique items or stats or what they’re building or any of that sort of nonsense. They simply work directly for your benefit, until you divulge them of whatever items they’ve managed to collect while you were out gathering stuff.
Ok look, it’s not perfect. But it’s better than those horrible Testificates. Does anybody actually like their implementation?
Didn’t think so. Get this mod.
- Replaces boring Testificates
- Marriages are fun
- Chores are cool
- Unique villager skins
- Still not very active
- Require your help
- Setting the home can be fussy
