Ars Magica Mod
Minecraft is a pretty cool game, no doubt about it, but sometimes I get bored of it. I’m talking “If I have to mine another block I’m going to pass out in my chair” bored. Building and mining and fighting skeletons and building redstone circuits to the sky is fun and all, for a while, but when you get into a serious slump, you need something seriously different.
Ars Magica is just that kind of different.
It’s a crazy huge mod that adds an entirely new dimension to the game: magic. Oh come on, don’t roll your eyes at me. It’s not the boring “equip staff, cast spell” magic like you’ve seen in a thousand other mods. Pull up a chair and let me explain.
You start with runes. Put together a little cobblestone in the right configuration and you’ll find yourself with a stone tablet, ready to be inked. So use your Inscription table and ink it! Use a combination of scrolls (sticks and a bit of paper) and runes to get your brand new spell.
And when you’ve got more spells than you’re comfortable carrying in your backpack, put them in a spell book! You can put spells or spell recipes in the book, and can scroll through active spells with the X and Z keys on your keyboard.
And that’s not all! You have “mana” (spell-casting power, but I know you knew that) that increases exponentially per level, so that the mightier you are, the better spells you are capable of casting. And there are new magical armor types. And new monsters, like the Dryad or Hecate, or Mana Elemental, or the Tower Guardian.
What tower is the Tower Guardian guarding, you ask? Oh, I forgot to mention, the game spawns Mage Towers above ground (and Archives below ground) for you to stumble upon. Tower Guardians aren’t in every mages’s tower, though. Tower Guardians are reserved for the mightiest tower of all- the Tower of the Archmage. The Tower of the Archmage is spawned randomly at a distance of no less than 10,000 blocks from your starting spawn point. If you can survive the Tower Guardians (no easy task- the creator of the mod recommends you be no less than level 15 or in a skilled group of allies), then you can learn the ultimate form of magic- Augmented Casting.
Once you’ve learned Augmented Casting, well, I guess you’ve about done everything there is to do in the mod, assuming you’ve also managed to discover all the spells, but let’s face it. Becoming an Archmage is pretty cool in and of itself, isn’t it?

- Install Forge 220.127.116.111
- Extract the zip file somewhere you’ll remember it
- Place ArsMagica.zip inside the “mods” folder
- Place MCore.jar into the “coremods” folder
